Keith "Booty" Cox - Pickens County Circuit Clerk

Keith “Booty” Cox was appointed Pickens County Circuit Clerk in March 2015 upon the retirement of then Clerk Bobby Cowart. Cox was elected in 2018 to a full term. He is a fourth generation Circuit Clerk. His great- uncle, great- grandfather, and grandfather all served as Circuit Clerks for Pickens County.

Cox is a life-long resident of Carrollton and Pickens County. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s, as well as a Masters, in Criminal Justice. A graduate of the University of Alabama Law Enforcement Academy, Cox spent 25 years in law enforcement, serving with the Aliceville Police Department, the 24th Circuit Drug Task Force, and the 24th Circuit District Attorney’s Office. While with the District Attorney’s Office, Cox headed major crimes investigations in Fayette, Lamar, & Pickens counties and was the only certified Crime Scene Investigator in the circuit.

In 1992 Cox was elected to the Carrollton Town Council and served as a councilmember for District Four until his appointment as Circuit Clerk. Cox is active with the Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Assistant Fire Chief. Cox is also a member of the Pickens County Firefighters Association and has served as President for over ten years. As well, Cox was appointed to the Pickens County E911 Board when it was formed in 1999. He is currently the Chairman of the E911 Board and has previously served as Treasurer. Cox is a member of Carrollton Baptist Church, currently serving as Chairman of the Security Committee and a member of the usher team. Cox is a member of Carrollton Masonic Lodge 214 and Fellowship Masonic Lodge 171 in Reform. As well, he is a member of the Pickens County Cattleman’s Association.

In 2012 Cox was named the State of Alabama District Attorney Investigator of the Year. Cox was awarded as Firefighter of the Year for Pickens County in 2007. In the 90s, Cox was also named as Pickens County Fraternal Order of Police Member of the Year and on more than one occasion has been named as the Carrollton Firefighter of the Year.
